Biography:

Born in Skövde in 1951, Gert Wingårdh spent his early years in Gothen- burg. After studying history and theory of art he quickly settled on archi- tecture. Soon after graduation in 1975 he started his own practice. It has grown steadily, and Wingårdh Arkitektkontor AB today is one of the largest architect practices in Sweden, with about 170 employees and with projects in several continents. The firm’s high artistic aspirations have earned it nu- merous accolades. Parallel to his architectural practice, Gert Wingårdh has also taken part in the public discussion of architectural issues and has been actively involved in teaching as Artistic Professor at the School of Architec- ture, Chalmers University of Technology.

 

ACCOLADES IN SELECTION

Kasper Salin Prize, given by the Association of Swedish Architects, for House of Sweden, Aranäs school, Chalmers Auditorium and Student Union Clubhouse, AstraZeneca R&D Mölndal site and Öijared Executive Country Club. World Architecture Festival Award for Emporia, Victoria Tower and K:fem. Numerous special prizes the Housing Award, the Concrete Award, the Metal Award, the Ceramics Award, the Wood Award and numerous local awards. Gert Wingårdh is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineer- ing Sciences and the Royal Academy of Art, Ph D HC at Chalmers and have been given the prins Eugen medal and the Gustaf Dalén medal.
