Story:

Villa Sbourez

The project is situated on a hilltop, 20 kilometers southeast of Saari , Iran . The project was developed in response to the client’s initial demand for an introverted , cozy space that embodies concepts such as purity , security and proximity.

Cuboid – The purest geometrical solid – was chosen for the general mass of the building. Directly inspired by the surrounding nature , the cuboid morphed slightly into a non-rigid mas, a concerted attempt to simultaneously maintain purity and respect the site’s natural context.

The access to the building was designed in a way to have as minimal interventions as possible in order to leave the site’s existing topography intact. This road continued beneath the building and the vertical access is made possible through a ramp corridor in continuation of the access road. The openings are formed in cohesion with the general formation logic. Therefore the lateral faces of the mass were replaced with full length windows. The other openings create a pattern inseparable from the mass.

Through structural analysis of a simple cuboid and comparing it with the projects morphed mass , we have come to a conclusion that the final mass creates 50% less structural tension than a simple cuboid. Therefore it functions far more optimized than a conventional cuboid.

The exterior mass geometry has affected the interior spaces with senses of peace and dynamism. The strongest impact from the mass formation can be sensed through the stairs which is formed continuously along the exterior. The interior spaces arrangement is planned in accordance with the two openings on the lateral faces of the building. In addition , natural ventilation is provided through the positioning of the openings. One can sense the nature inside the building through the full height windows provided.
