The first workshop on architectural journalism in Iran was recently held at the editorial office of Villa Magazine, with the support of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO.
Eight architecture graduates participated in the event, which aimed to highlight the importance of documenting architectural ideas and approaches through writing. The program introduced participants to various international models of architectural writing workshops, drawing examples from countries such as India, South Africa, Singapore, and the United States.
Amir Abbas Aboutalebi, architect and editor-in-chief of Villa Magazine, said the workshop was designed to examine the current state of architectural journalism in Iran and to underscore the value of writing for architects. He noted that the course did not focus on writing techniques but rather on raising awareness about the significance of independent and committed journalism in the context of contemporary Iranian architecture.
Architect and writer Mahshid Motamed shared her own experiences in translation and architectural writing, describing architectural journalism as a creative and research-driven field.
Observers say the initiative could help develop a new generation of Iranian architectural journalists equipped to address the profession’s evolving challenges.
