This is an interview with Lauri Louekari by AmirAbbas Aboutalebi, about villa typology, has been published in Villa Magazine, No.8
Villa Do you consider villas as an independent typology in architecture?
Louekari Yes; one family house is an interesting task because the program of rooms is almost equal in so many different countries. We can compare houses and see how the culture and the climate influence in the solutions in spite of the relative same kind of spaces.
Villa Do you agree with this statement?
“Designing villas is a more appropriate topic for practicing and experiencing the intellectual approach of leading architects and architectural offices.”
And why sometimes architects call their villa project, a house?
Louekari Villa Valtanen and The Valtanen house are a bit different concepts in Finland: Villa can mean many different kinds of homes, the summer homes too; The House Valtanen is normally the main house to live around the year.
Villa In your opinion, what is the most distinct difference between a house and a villa?
Louekari I don't have an answer to this question.
Villa Which category does your project Valtanen Villa belong to? Urban/rural villa, Permanent villa (residence)/ Temporary villa (leisure)

Villa If Villa Magazine was to throw a worldwide competition for villas, which kind of categorizing do you prefer?
A: Villas below 100 m², 100-250 m², 250-500 m², 500-1000 m² and more
B: Mountain villas, Forest villas, Beach villas, Desert villas, …

Louekari I do not have any criticism.
