Biography:
The architecture office BERKTOLD WEBER ARCHITEKTEN is located at the border triangle Austria, Germany and Switzerland, with the premises in Vorarlberg/Austria. It provides planning and solutions of various types and scales, ranging from urbanistic studies and institutional constructions with a focus on educational and administrative buildings to multi-story residential buildings, and one-family dwellings, as well as interior design, including the design of furniture. The main guideline in all these complex tasks is to give clear and individualized answers, which are based on an intensive consideration of the respective location and its cultural imprint, relate the object to its environment in a natural yet unique way, and nurture the long-lasting non-verbal communication between the object and its surroundings. The resulting concept of space is typically supposed to outgrow its original core purpose, creating added atmospheric value. In each realization, the choice of material and the appropariate consideration of ecological and sustainability aspects is considered both self-evident and crucial. Next to the “International Architecture Award” by The Chicago Athenaeum, the office led by Philipp Berktold and Helena Weber also received various other awards, including the Austrian “Geramb Rose” and, the Vorarlberger “Holzbaupreis”.
