Biography:

Afshin Farzin was born in Shiraz in 1975. In 1993, he was admitted to the faculty of fine arts, University of Tehran. A year before graduation with an MA degree in Architecture in 2001, he started his first professional project in collaboration with Nima Javidi.

In 2004 he founded Tadj-Farzin Studio together with Amin Tadj. Adding new partners (Arash Aliabadi, Saman Shams and Sakhi Shirmohammadi) from 2007 on, Tadj-Farzin expanded its career and changed its name to VAVStudio in 2010. VAVStudio brought its activity to an end in 2021. Right now, Afshin Farzin is pursuing his career independently.

His projects, especially in the VAVStudio-period, can be regarded as the result of a network of overlaying ideas and interests in a collaborative process. This tendency towards collaborative design has manifested itself in a number of his projects, among which the wining proposal for the headquarter of Tehran Stock Exchange competition in collaboration with Alejandro Aravena.

VAVStudio was invited to the main exhibition of the Venice Biennale 2016 with the title “Reporting from the Front”, where it participated with its installation “and”.

In 2019, Afshin Farzin with VAVStudio won the first prize in the international competition for regenerating the urban corridor above the Tehran–Tabriz railway tunnel.

Currently, beside working on small-scale residential projects he is also engaged in public and urban projects, which allow him to pursue his interest in design as a scenario for living.
