The project of the architect's house in Yazd is the result of a critical dialectic between twentieth-century theoretical discussions and the demands of the client. Yazd's religious culture, on the one hand, and the typological studies of Yazd's houses, which were generally dominated by a central emptiness on the Qibla axis, on the other hand, were the foundations of the formation. Regarding these two cases (religious culture, Qibla direction), the concept that the design team discovered for the project was "The House as a worship to live in ", an attempt to establish a dialogue with the Villa Savoy Le Corbusier, "A house is a machine to live in".
For us, the empty space was important in this project, so that first, empty spaces were created according to the program and the wishes of the client, then other parts of the project, like a continuous loop, formed around these voids. This solution is the result of an indirect dialogue and quotation with two projects of Koolhaas (a very large library and CCTV project in China). Subsequently, the project was accompanied by a fundamental change in the traditional Yazd homes program, and the fact that the kitchen was located in Yazdi houses somewhere outside of the home, and this also expressed the status of woman in the traditional world. But in this project, the kitchen is the focal point of the house, in which both the private space and the public space are in contact, and represents the position of the woman in the modern world. Regarding the way in which the project is organized, the project is such that in the future two family members can be placed at the upper and lower levels and parents at an intermediate level if this is desired, which emphasizes the flexibility and economy of the old houses. Finally, the materials that are considered in the construction of this project are concrete and brick, one regional and the other international, which makes the double reading of the work and the establishment of a border between Iranian and global architecture.
